The procedure for the severely handicapped ensures that you can still be mobile despite your handicap. The possibility exists for certain severely handicapped persons to use public transport in the RMV region free of charge. This also applies under certain circumstances to the persons accompanying them.
Reduced fares for the handicapped are based on the Severely Handicapped Persons Act in its most recently revised form. All you need is the identity card that entitles you to the advantages available to you together with the accompanying sheet of paper with a currently valid stamp. These are available from your local social services office. The privilege card is issued to you personally and is valid for the entire RMV region including the transitional tariff zones.
By the way, it goes without saying that aids such as wheel chairs or guide dogs are always carried free of charge. The person accompanied the handicapped passenger also travels free of charge if his or her identity card bears a “B” to show that an accompanying person is always necessary.
