Behaviour in dangerous situations

VGF-employees are regularly trained to be able to react appropriately and quickly in dangerous situations. We have an emergency plan, in which all imaginable situations and scenarios have been theoretically portrayed and for which there are precisely defined sequences and organisational structures to deal with them.

Please understand, however, that we cannot publish these details for security reasons!

However, you will find general instructions on how you should behave in dangerous situations here. In general: trust the on-site VGF personnel and the announcements! VGF, police, and fire department coordinate their measures with one another in dangerous situations and regularly conduct joint exercises.

Escape route map

Tunnels and stations are equipped with standardised signs showing the passenger the shortest escape route in case of emergency. This is assisted by illuminated strips with arrows on the walls at a height of approx. 30 cm. In tunnels, the signs direct the passenger to the nearest station or emergency exit.

If it becomes necessary to vacate a station, the VGF control centre will make an announcement. This announcement begins and ends with a piercing audio signal similar to a siren. The text states:

Please pay attention for an important announcement!<br /For safety reasons, the entire station must be vacated.
Operations will be suspended.
Please leave the station through the marked exists.
Do not use any lifts.
Help children and the elderly to leave the station.
Follow the directions of the emergency personnel!

When you hear this announcement, please leave the station immediately!

VGF regularly also makes additional announcements regarding general safety and unattended luggage. This text begins with an announcement bell and is read in German and English:

Attention! A VGF safety announcement!
Do not leave your luggage unattended and please report any suspicious luggage.
Call us at 069-213 22708 or notify our on-site personnel.

Emergency exits or fire department access points

If it is necessary to leave a subway train between two stations, follow the instructions of the operating personnel! Our personnel will safely lead you to the nearest emergency exit or the next station – the fire department can also enter the tunnel through these emergency exits in case of fire. Never walk around aimlessly in the tunnels! Follow instructions. The emergency exits and all technical equipment are regularly checked for proper function. The emergency exits can be opened easily.
