VGF's Security Service

You can travel late in the evening and still come home safely with the VGF. That’s the job of our Security Service, making sure that you don’t get into a difficult situation and that violence can never succeed. The Security Service is on patrol in the stations and on board the underground trains, trams and buses, in order to prevent any physical attacks on our passengers. Our VGF Security Service staff are trained to recognise conflict situations and neutralise them. However, there is even more they can do: they provide First Aid, provide information and are happy to give you advice. Every year they provide passengers with more than 100,000 items of information. They can be recognised at a glance by their blue uniforms and white caps or dark blue berets.

  • Working in teams, more than 140 employees are deployed round the clock in five shifts to ensure your security. Each team is equipped with a PTT (Push-to-talk) cell phone, which guarantees swift, effective deployment.
  • The Security Service works from a security and service control room, from where it monitors the stations and parking and storage areas and deploys its staff. It also keeps the tunnel mouths under surveillance by video.
  • The VGF Anti-vandalism Investigation Group successfully deploys its own plain-clothes staff and also collaborates with the local police stations.
From 9.00 p.m. onwards the Security Service operates extra patrols on the underground and other critical routes.

Stations and bus and tram stops

  • At all levels there are specially identified emergency telephones that call "110" (the emergency number) direct
  • Timetables are displayed outside the entrances to all underground stations so that passengers can identify in advance the platform from which they have to depart
  • New stations are being built with straight lines so that a good view can be obtained right through them. New installations are not allowed to block the view
  • In future all city stations, above ground or below, will be equipped with telephones for emergency calls.

Vehicles

  • Free view through all carriages (on the new train units)
  • Transparent wall behind the driver (on the new and converted train units)
  • Intercom with the driver (on all train units)

Service

  • Two-way radio from the driver to any station or stop
  • Alight anywhere after 8.00 p.m., even in between bus stops
