The control room: VGF’s heart and brain

Every day VGF carries about 500,000 people – in comfort, in safety and punctually. Performance at this level calls for highly qualified employees and the closest possible approach to technical perfection in operating equipment. This is because we are striving to achieve the highest standards with regard to reliability and quality in operational handling. As long ago as 1979, therefore, VGF was one of the first transport operations in Germany to set up a central control room, and since then it supervises not only the three modes of transport, bus, tram and underground, on an integrated basis but also the points and infrastructural equipment, the signalling and train guidance systems, the energy supply, and the functioning of escalators and lifts. Information to passengers is also of growing significance, and makes use of various different media while being controlled centrally from this control room.
