Mobility in the past and the future. The Frankfurt transport museum shows how everything started. Two former tram sheds were converted into a transport museum in 1984, and since then the 3,900 square metres of space in Schwanheim have been inviting visitors in to the exhibition on “From the horse-drawn tram to the present day”. A tour through the exciting history of public transport in Frankfurt enables you to admire 30 lovingly restored original exhibits. They include the oldest centrepiece, the first horse-drawn tram operated by the Frankfurter Trambahngesellschaft and dating back to 1872. There are motorised and trailer vehicles from all the various epochs, and “O-bus”, a steam locomotive, technical vehicles and the “children’s driving school”. The present day is represented by current models. You can also admire historic network plans, tickets, signalling equipment, tram motors, uniforms and even an old maintenance workshop.
The work of the Museum is supported by the Historic Trams of the City of Frankfurt am Main Society.
