The connecting ticket

Would you like to travel with a valid RMV season ticket to somewhere outside the zone for which it is valid?

Then before you set off you will need a connecting ticket.

In Frankfurt the way to buy one is as follows:

• Look at the tariff zone plan to see the A-tariff zones that you need additionally, starting from the border of the zone for your season ticket and extending to you destination zone.
• Adults need to buy one surcharge ticket for each additional A-tariff zone. 
• Children need:
  - one surcharge ticket for one or two additional tariff zones,
  - to surcharge tickets for three or four additional tariff zones.  
• In Frankfurt you can buy these surcharge tickets from the automatic ticket dispenser
  - by entering "50" on the keypad,
  - pressing "Zuschlag" ("surcharge"),
  - paying the amount indicated, and
  - taking your ticket(s).

Example of buying connecting tickets:

With your monthly season ticket for Frankfurt (A-tariff zone 50) you would like to go to Wiesbaden (A-tariff zone 65). You can see from the tariff zone plan that you are short of two A-tariff zones (A-tariff zones 66 und 65). You now buy two surcharge tickets in the way described above. For this connection a child needs only one surcharge ticket.

For the return journey you take the same action again. You only need to enter the number of the tariff zone from which you are starting your return journey, in this example “65”. There are some automatic ticket dispensers outside Frankfurt that do not have a surcharge button, and in this case a normal adult single ticket in Price Level 3 has to be bought.
