Modernisation and maintenance of stations

VGF invests not only in the extension of its fixed infrastructure but also in its modernisation and upkeep. Between 1998 and 2017, 55 overground and underground stations have been or are scheduled to be converted to provide disabled and wheelchair access, at a cost of €66 million. This includes a lift installation programme whereby four underground stations were equipped with lifts between 2008 and 2010, and further installations are planned at Westend, Miquel-/Adickesallee, Eschenheimer Tor and Schweizer Platz at an estimated total cost of €7.7 million. On top of this, for a further €52 million VGF will have modernised a total of 130 tram stops by 2017 to adapt them for use with low-floor trams.
