Bad Homburg construction project
In Bad Homburg, the U2 U-Bahn line will be extended beyond the current terminus Gonzenheim to Homburg station, where it will provide a useful connection to the S-Bahn and bus lines there.
Together with the city, VGF is planning the extension totalling around 1,590 metres, 350 of which run through a tunnel. To access the tunnel, the trains will traverse a ramp which will be dug at the current site of Gonzenheim station. The station will be moved west and built one level below ground, which means that both side platforms will be accessible directly from above ground and without a B-level in between. The station will be mobility-friendly and have disabled access with escalators and lifts.
At Homburg station, the U2 will then stop at platform 301 in future, before which a crossing loop with an exit platform will be set up, allowing two platforms for four-car trains to be positioned one after the other.
The planning permission procedure has begun. The first hearing took place in April 2012. Preliminary planning is in progress.
