Mobility for all

The following pages contain helpful information, particularly for the elderly, passengers with prams, disabled passengers, passengers using wheelchairs and all those who have temporarily reduced mobility.

Barrier-free U5 stations

The “Musterschule” and “Glauburgstraße” stations have become the latest two stations on the U5 line to become barrier-free. Please note that, at both stations, step-free access to and from the trains is only possible at the central 80 cm-height section of the platform. On both of these sections, there is still a step with a height of approximately 20 cm.

In concrete terms, this means that any passengers wishing to alight at Musterschule and Glauburgstraße will need to look out for the yellow markings on the platform of the station where they join the train. VGF has compiled an information brochure about this.

Barrier-free access at U5 stations

Mind the step!

The U6 line is likely to remain only partially free of barriers until 2017.

The older type of carriage is still the main option for the U6 line. This means that there is a step of between 12 and 17 cm between the platform and the train. The older carriages are gradually being replaced by the new U5 models.

For the section of the line between the stops Industriehof and Zoo you have the option of travelling on the fully accessible U7 line.

The VGF passenger assistance team will be pleased to help you. You can book a member of travelling our passenger assistance team no later than the day before your journey on +49 (0)69 213-23188 (Monday to Friday from 8 a.m. to 9 p.m.).

Important note on barrier-free travel:
Platforms can always be reached by ramp or lift with the fully accessible U7 line.  exception of Westend station. The lifts at this station are currently being refitted as part of VGF’s upgrade programme, so platforms can only be accessed by stairs or escalators.

Our brochure ‘Barrier-free travel’ contains further information for those passengers with reduced mobility travelling around Frankfurt. It’s available at all VGF ticket centres and at the travel information office at Hauptwache.
